Folksong Festival of North Central Region kicks off

A folksong festival of the North Central Region was organized at the Information Cultural Center in the central province of Thua Thien-Hue on March 28.

Twenty folksongs were  performed by singers and artists from six troupes hailing from the northern province of Thanh Hoa, the central provinces of Nghe An, Ha Tinh, Quang Binh, Quang Tri and Thua Thien-Hue. The event will be free from March 28-30.

Van Cong Toan, head of the organizing board, said this year the festival has drawn folk artists from mountainous areas and ethnic minority groups, in a bid to find brilliant, extraordinary and undiscovered talent for special performances.

These special performances will be selected by an Arts Council for live TV performances in March, to be broadcast on VTV and some other channels, highlighting old indigenous folksongs from six provinces in the North Central Region.

The bi-annual festival is jointly organized by Vietnam Television and Vietnam Folk Association with the aim to research and preserve the ancient indigenous culture of regional folk singing.
