Nguyen Minh Truong from Tran Huu Trang Cai Luong Theater in Ho Chi Minh City won the 2014 Cai Luong Singing Contest called Chuong Vang (Golden Bell) Vong Co which ended at Ho Chi Minh City Television Theater on September 25.
The winner of the Golden Bell Award also took home the Audience Choice Awards.
Nguyen Thi Linh Phuong got the Silver Bell Award and the Press Choice Award. The Bronze Bell Award went to Nguyen Thi Ly of the Vietnam National Cai Luong Theater in Hanoi.
Launched three months ago, the 2014 Cai Luong Singing Contest is organized by Ho Chi Minh City Television. The jury narrowed down from hundreds of contestants to just three in the final round which took place at the HTV Theater in HCMC on September 25.
Besides discovering young talent, the annual competition also aims at keeping alive the tradition of Cai Luong and fostering a love for folk opera among young people.
