Hoi An-Japan Cultural Festival 2016 opens

Hoi An’s old quarter and the Hoai River are beautifully lit up by thousands of lanterns during the 14th annual Hoi An-Japan Cultural Festival which opened on August 15.

During the two day event, sport and cultural activities like calligraphy exhibitions, displays of fashion and handicraft products, Japanese origami folding Instruction and Vietnamese palm leaf folding will be introduced to visitors.

The highlight event is the wedding reappearance of Princess Ngoc Hoa and Japanese trader Araki Sotaro in Japanese Bridge area. Cong Nu Ngoc Hoa is said to be the daughter of Lord Sai Nguyen Phuc Nguyen. When Araki Sotaro, a famous Japanese trader came to Faifo Port (the English name for Hoi An Port) in the early years of the 17th century.

In addition, a vegetarian day called “Meat-Free Day for Health and Environment”, the first of its kind in Hoi An will be held in the event to call on visitors to enjoy a day without meat, poultry and fish. It aims to raise the awareness of people of the healthy lifestyle, and environment protection as well.
