Hue Artisan Casts Largest Bell in South-East Asia

The team is now in the final stages of the manufacturing process.

A giant bell, made by artisan Nguyen Van Sinh, will be unveiled at the Truong Yen historical site in the Province of Ninh Binh at the end of the month. The bell, considered the largest in South-East Asia, was commissioned to celebrate the 1000th founding anniversary of Thang Long City (now Ha Noi) in 2010.

The 30-ton bell, which measures 5.5 meters in height and 3.4 meters across, has taken a team of 20 workers some 9 months and 40 tons of bronze (at a cost of VND6.5 billion) to produce. The team is now in the final stages of the manufacturing process.

Another bell cast by Mr. Sinh, weighing 21 tons, was unveiled at the Bai Dinh pagoda in Ninh Binh in 2005.
