Hungarian student wins Miss Vietnam Europe 2008

Nineteen year old Nguyen Pham Bao Quynh of Hungary, an international relations student in Budapest, is the new Miss Vietnam Europe.

She was crowned at a pageant in London last Sunday.

The first runner-up was La Ngoc Anh, 20, from the UK, and the second, Le Xuan Mai, 23, from France.

Other titles -  Miss ao dai, Best Figure, and Miss Evening Dress - went respectively to Nguyen Tue Anh from the UK; and Luong Thuy Tien and Phan Le Nhu from Denmark.

Miss Europe Vietnam 2008 will receive 5,000 pounds (VND130 million) and visit Vietnam for a charity trip. The two runners-up will be receive 3,000 pounds (VND80 million) and 2,000 pounds (VND50 million) respectively.

Launched in March, the pageant drew the participation of nearly 200 Vietnamese women living and working in European countries. More than 20 contestants from the UK, Denmark, France and Hungary took part in the competitions in swimwear, night gown, and ao dai categories, and an interview in the final round at the Troxy Theater.

It was noted that contestants of the Miss Vietnam in Europe 2008 beauty contest spoke much better Vietnamese than in previous Vietnamese beauty contests abroad. Many of them registered to join the interview round in Vietnamese, said the jury.

Nguyen Pham Bao Quynh, who left Viet Nam for Hungary when she was two, can speak and write in Vietnamese fluently. She was crowned Miss Vietnamese Student in Hungary in 2007 and has taken part in community-based activities of Vietnamese people in Hungary. She now works as a model for Open Casting, Bloom Models and Broadway Casting.

The contest is organized by the Tri Thuc Viet company, the MP Entertainment company, the Vietnamese Embassy in the UK, the Vietnamese Association and Vietnamese Students Association in the UK.
