Ministry asks to postpone 2017 Miss Universe Vietnam

The Ministry of Culture, Sport and Tourism has asked the People’s Committee of Khanh Hoa Province to postpone the ongoing 2017 Miss Universe Vietnam beauty pageant until the damages and other losses caused by Typhoon Damrey are remedied.

Accordingly, the provincial government has to delegate the Saigon Unicorp, the pageant’s organizer to stop the competitions of the final round which are scheduled to take place in Nha Trang, Phan Thiet, Da Lat and Phu Quoc from November 4-December 2. The climax night of the pageant will take place at Crown Convention Center in the world class resort and entertainment complex, Diamond Bay City in the central coastal city of Nha Trang in Khanh Hoa Province on December 2.
On November 5, one day after a storm swept through Nha Trang City, the semifinal round of the 2017 Miss Universe Vietnam went on as scheduled and was broadcast live on national television. The organization board then received serious criticism from the public.
Typhoon Damrey killed 89 people, left 18 missing and 174 injured in the central and south-central regions, according to the latest report of the National Committee for Search and Rescue in the early morning of November 8.
Khanh Hoa Province saw 37 killed and 138 injured; nearly 1,000 houses collapsed and 97,930 houses had their roofs blown away.
