Mrs. Vietnam pageant begins in Vung Tau

Fifty eight women aged between 21 and 48 are contesting the final of the 2009 Mrs. Vietnam Pageant at the Imperial Hotel in Vung Tau from September 17 to 26.

They will jog, swim, and canoe, play golf, tennis, badminton, and beach volleyball and take part in talent and question-and-answer contests.

They will also compete in swimsuit, evening gown, and ao dai competitions on the final night to be held at the Ba Ria – Vung Tau Multi-function Sport Center on September 26.

Five of the ladies who have won beauty pageants in the past will receive a bye the finals.

They are Nguyen Thi Kim Dung, winner of the 1999 Miss Friendly Vietnam-China event; Dam Thi Ly, winner of the 2006 Miss Central Highland Beauty Contest and the Miss Sport title at the 2006 Miss Vietnam pagean; super model Tran Bao Ngoc, winner of the 1995 Vietnam Model contest; Kathe, winner of the Miss Friendly title at the 2006 Miss Vietnam pageant and first runner-up at the 2006 Miss Central Highland Beauty Contest; and Ngo Huynh Trang, runner-up at the 2002 Dat Mui- Ca Mau Pageant.

The women will also take part in charity activities, offering gifts to inmates at the old-age home in Long Dien District and pay tribute to the statue of heroine Vo Thi Sau at the Martyrs Cemetery, visit the Vung Tau Children Protection Center, and Gia Gia gemstone center where many disabled craftsman work.
