Nhat Tan village in Ha Noi is no longer a unique place where people could find meaningful and traditional flowers. Flower-lovers have recently heard of La Ca village in Ha Tay Province, 15 kilometers from Ha Noi.
Arriving at the flower village in Duong Noi Commune, the first image caught in my eye is the large field covered by colorful peach blossoms.
Previously, habitants in this region mainly cultivated rice, not specializing in raising peach flowers. Each year they often had one crop or even two if the weather was good.
In winter they had several supplementary crops which are less economic and unprofitable. Local people had to suffer poor living standards for a long time, not to mention the fact that some of them moved to other places for better conditions, said Nguyen Trung Dung, President of Duong Noi Commune People’s Committee.
However, some of these farmers still stayed around, searching for new cultivation in this area. They spent time working and learning by practical experience in Nhat Tan–the well-known peach village in Hanoi.
Gradually, La Ca Village has been successful in raising peach flowers for “Tet” Festival with the profit much higher than rice. The living standards of the local people have notably been improved.
“Currently, over 100 hectares of land has been transferred to growing peach trees. Profits from peach trees have become the major incomes of 90% of the local people.” added Mr. Dung.
For illustration, he took us to Mr. Nguyen Trung Thuyet, the first horticulturist in this area. Pointing at the 1000-peach tree garden, he smiled and said that it will bring him at least VND50million if the weather is fine.
Averagely, each family in La Ca Flower Village has around 500 peach trees while many have even up to 1000, which bring them hundreds of millions of VND a year.
