The night-time fantasy concert at Saigon Opera House promises to be a step-up by the young generation, with a variety of creative dance moves and passionate melodies, and an attitude to try new materials and ideas in their musical projects.
The concert includes ten pieces inspired from Vietnamese classical music but expressed in a fresh, modern way by the young generation, such as Nguyen cau (Pray), Canh dong non (A field covered by conical hats), Noi dau mau da cam (An orange pain) and Khoanh khac (Moment).
Every performance of the concert will be a story without ending. Unlike traditional story telling, the artistes will provide most of the story but will not provide endings, which the audience can choose for themselves.
Freedom of mind and freedom of having a view of art and enjoying the stories in each person’s particular way is what the artistes are aiming to achieve.
The opening song, Nguyen cau, performed by the HBSO chorus, will be replayed again with more new inspiration and emotion at the conclusion of the concert by all the performing artistes.
The artistes hope the performance will help combine the flow of both modern, contemporary rhythms and classical melodies.
The Saturday concert is led by stage director Ngo Thanh Tam with costumes and props prepared by Ha Quoc Cuong.
Tran Nhat Minh is in charge of linking the performances of familiar faces from HBSO, such as sopranos Vo Thuy Ngoc Tuyen and Nguyen Thi Nhu Ngoc, and violinist Tang Thanh Nam.
This is the first time that city residents can see the whole concert, instead of watching previews or short-cut versions as performed at the recent National Song and Dance Festival 2009, in the south central coastal city of Nha Trang.
Tickets are on sale at the Opera House Box Office: Stalls: VND150,000 (US$9) – Circle: VND200,000 ($11).
Bookings can also be made via the hotline: (+848) 3832 2009 or 6270 4450.
The performance starts at 8pm at the Opera House, 7 Lam Son Square, District 1, HCM City
