Tich Dien Rice Festival 2016 opens

Vice President Nguyen Thi Doan attended the annual Tich Dien (Ploughing) Rice Festival in the northern province of Ha Nam on February 14 (seventh day of Lunar New Year).

The festival first originated in AD 987 when King Le Dai Hanh ploughed a rice field in Doi Son Commune of Duy Tien District in Ha Nam Province,  to encourage farmers to work harder and pray for a bumper harvest and a prosperous year. The festival aims to emphasize the important role of the agriculture in building and developing the country.

On the same day, the Tree Planting Festival was held in Hanoi’s Phu Xuyen District.

Addressing the ceremony, Secretary of the Hanoi Party Committee, Hoang Trung Hai stressed the importance of planting trees and protecting environment.

The tree planting festival, initiated by President Ho Chi Minh in 1959, has become an annual festival at the beginning of a lunar new year.

On the 7th day of the first lunar month, people flocked to a unique Vieng market in Vu Ban district in the northern province of Nam Dinh province to wish for a prosperous and lucky new year.

The one-a-year spring displays ornamental plants, handicrafts, antiques, forged products and among.
