Published by the Viet Nam News Agency, it will contain new information and the author’s thoughts added to the documents, articles and works of Pham Xuan An, Hero of the People’s Armed Forces, that were published in Viet Nam.
Larry Berman, a professor of political science at the University of California in Davis, uses the phrase “boundless patriotism” to define An’s motivation as he spied for the north while working out of Saigon as a reporter for Time magazine.
After the country’s reunification in 1975, Pham Xuan An shed the guise of a secret agent and returned to a more normal life in his war-ravaged homeland.
