Educational Test by SGGP Finds Their First Winners

Sai Gon Giai Phong yesterday announced the winners from An Giang province in the 8th “Good Literature and beautiful handwriting” contest.

Nguyen Ngoc Diep from the Nui Sap Middle School took the top spot, and prize money of VND3 million (US$179); followed by Bui Khanh Chau from Nguyen Trai Middle School and Pham Nguyen Hong My from Binh Khanh Middle School who received VND2 million (US$119) and VND1 million (US$60) respectively.
Five other contestants - Le Hai Dang from Long Son Middle School, Tran Ngoc Giao from Tan Chau Middle School, Tran Thai Hung and Lai Tai My from Ly Thuong Kiet Middle School, and Nguyen Thi Cam Tien from O Long Vy Middle School  - were awarded consolidation prizes worth VND500,000 (US$30) each.
The prize giving ceremony was co-organized by the An Giang Province’s Department of Education and Training and insurance company Prudential Vietnam. Attending the ceremony were Mr. Nguyen Hoang Viet, member of Communist Party of Vietnam Central Committee and also Secretary of the An Giang Provincial Party Committee, SGGP Deputy Editor-in-Chief Mrs. Nguyen Thi To, many other representatives from the provincial offices and Prudential Vietnam and over 200 parents of the contestants.
The contest aims to raise the interest in literature among middle school students and also help improve their writing skill.
Mr. Viet praised the initial achievements of the contest and said it would positively impact local education development.
Tran Quang Khai, a teacher, noted that: “The content of the test papers is interesting and matches the ability of most contestants. The test papers mostly aimed at evaluating the ability to be touched by the environment outside of each contestant. The quality of the exam papers submitted this year is much better than last year.”
The annual contest, covering Ho Chi Minh City and the Mekong Delta provinces, has been held by SGGP and Prudential Vietnam since 2000 .
The contest this year kicked off late September and is expected to end before the Teacher’s Day, Nov.20 in Ho Chi Minh City.
