European Universities Seek Ties in Viet Nam

More than 100 universities and educational institutions from 19 European countries attended the 2007 European Higher Education Fair in Ha Noi on Saturday.

The event initiated by the European Commission was part of a set of cooperative programs between Viet Nam and the EU in education and training.

European representatives introduced training programs and opportunities for higher education in Europe to Vietnamese students and gave presentations on some scholarship programs of 27 EU members.

Previously, during an advance conference themed “Asia-Link Symposium” held in Ha Noi, Vietnamese Deputy Minister of Education and Training Tran Van Nhung said Viet Nam needed help from the EU to guide the research and qualification of some 20,000 doctorate students.

Koos Richelle, Director-General of the European Commission’s EuropeAid Co-operation Office, said education is an important area of Viet Nam - EU collaboration and helping Viet Nam in higher education is a top priority.

The number of scholarships in Europe available to Vietnamese students rose from 40 in 2006 to 50 in 2007 and is expected rise significantly more in 2008.
