Foreign languages can be taught in preschools after banning

The Ministry of Education and Training has lifted its ban on teaching English in preschools due to a large backlash from local parents.

Only kindergartens following national standards meeting requirements related to facilities, teaching staff and equipment will be permitted to teach foreign languages, according to documents from the ministry.

English teachers must have a degree from an English-language university or college, according to the ministry. Teaching aids must be tested and permitted by education and training documents.

The courses should be fun and interactive to create interest for the children, according the to ministry.

Education and training departments have been assigned to manage, supervise and inspect the teaching of foreign languages at kindergartens.
