Hanoi police investigating fake university degrees

Hanoi Police March 16 said they had arrested two individuals for making fake university degrees and academic transcripts.

The accused are Nguyen Anh Tiep, 27, a student from the University of Civil Engineering; and Nguyen Hong Van, 31, an accountant for Vinafone telecom services company.

Police said Van had been making the degrees, of several universities, since October 2009 while Tiep was responsible for selling them.

Tiep had reportedly sold three of the fake degrees at VND7 million (US$378) each as well as several phony student transcripts.
