Scholarships given to 700 disadvantaged Hanoi children

A children’s education support fund, “Doraemon,” gave over 700 scholarships to disadvantaged children in Hanoi on August 27.

The Doraemon Scholarship Fund was set up from revenue earned from Doraemon, a series of comic strips created by Japanese writer Fujiko. F. Fujio.

The Vietnamese language version of the series has been published by the Kim Dong Publishing House since 1996 and attracted millions of young fans.

The annual scholarship is granted to children who have overcome difficulties to achieve high academic results in various regions nationwide.

This year’s 14th Doraemon Fund traveled to Hanoi to present 700 scholarships, worth VND500, 000 (US$27) each, to disadvantaged children for the 2009-2010 school year.
