Viet Nam, Germany look to bolster collaboration on education

Education has become a prominent field of co-operation for Viet Nam and the German Federal State of Hessen, President Truong Tan Sang said while receiving Karin Muler, head of the Hessen State Ministry for Science and Arts office in Ha Noi yesterday.

He spoke about Viet Nam-Germany University, which was established in 2008 through a partnership between the Hessen State Ministry for Science and Arts and the Vietnamese Ministry of Education and Training.

Viet Nam-Germany University has 1,500 students pursuing 11 majors.

The president said he hoped the university would continue improving its infrastructure to lure more students from Southeast Asia and Asia at large.

Viet Nam stood ready to help connect Germany and ASEAN through the Viet Nam-Germany University model, he said.

The State leader suggested the Viet Nam Ministry of Education and Training work closely with German partners to deal with bottlenecks in administration and management for the university's development.

For her part, Karin described the university as a successful co-operation model for the two countries, adding that Hessen State was interested in the project and continuing to partner with Viet Nam to improve the quality of education at the university.
