Vietnam bags medals at Int’l Mathematics Olympiad in Bulgaria

Students of the Hanoi University of Natural Sciences won two bronze medals and two certificates of merit at the 2012 International Mathematics Olympiad for University Students in Blagoevgrad, Bulgaria.

The university team included Tran Van Do and Pham Minh Quang who received bronze medals, and Hoang Duc Trung and Nguyen Duc Khanh who took part in the 19th competition at the American University in Bulgaria from July 26 to August 1.

The 2012 International Mathematics Olympiad for University Students attracted 315 students from 75 universities. Participants spent five hours to solve five exercises everyday in categories of Algebra, Real and Complex Analysis, Combinatorics and Geometry.

Earlier, Vietnamese students won gold, silver and bronze medals at the 44th International Chemistry Olympiad held in the US from July 21-30.

Vietnamese team won gold, silver and bronze medals at the International Physics Olympiad held in Estonia from July 16-24.

The national maths team won gold, silver and bronze medals and was ranked 9th at the 53rd International Maths Olympiad held in Mar del Plata in Argentina from July 10-11.
