Ly Quy Trung, founder and owner of a restaurant empire that includes the Pho 24 chain, received an honorary Doctorate on Monday from Australia’s Griffith University for his outstanding contributions to the tourism and restaurant industries.

Dr. Hugh Wilkins, Director of Griffith’s offshore operations, confirmed the bestowal in a letter to the university’s dean.
Mr. Trung is the first Vietnamese and youngest person to receive the honor.

One of Australia’s 10 largest universities, Griffith was ranked sixth globally last year for its research into tourism.
