Speaking at the ceremony, Nguyen Tan Phong, Editor-in-Chief of SGGP, stressed that at all times, people all express their gratitude to teachers who have contributed greatly to the country’s development.
Vietnamese people have a tradition of highly respecting and honoring teachers; therefore, the award ceremony aimed to show gratitude to teachers.
Since the beginning, Vo Truong Toan Award has received the society’s support. Especially, it has been an impetus to boost teachers’ dedication to the profession.
This year is the 17th anniversary of the award and over 510 excellent teachers in HCMC who overcome their daily difficulties to devote to the career have received the award.
Each award-winning teacher is considered as a leader in the field of education and will encourage following generations, said Le Hong Son, director of the municipal Department of Education and Training.
Teacher Nguyen Gia Te, Mathematics teacher of Cau Kieu Junior High School in Phu Nhuan District said the award is really an impetus to boost his devotion in teaching. Meantime teacher Bui My Thuy of Gia Dinh Senior High School said through this award she has chance to meet her old teacher, Vo Thi Ngoc Quy who also received the award.
Hua Ngoc Thuan, deputy chairman of the city People’s Committee, praised 510 teachers and lauded the newspaper and the Prudential to set up the award, wishing teachers good health and happiness in the career.
On the occasion, the Education Minister decided to give certificate of merit to Sai Gon Giai Phong and the Prudential that organized and launched two awards named Vo Truong Toan and Prudential -Good Essay, Good Writing during 17 past years.
Attending the ceremony were Hua Ngoc Thuan, deputy chairman of People’s Committee; Than Thi Thu, head of the Committee's Department of Propaganda and Training; Ha Huu Phuc, head of the Ministry of Education and Training’s representative office in HCMC; Nguyen Tan Phong, SGGP’s Editor in chief; Le Hogn Son, director of the Department of Education and Training in HCMC; Do Van Dao, deputy director of the Department of Home Affairs and many representatives from related agencies.
