The aim of the award is to preserve culture and encourage educational sectors in the country. It is commissioned by the Department of Education and Training in HCMC, Sai Gon Giai Phong Newspaper, and Life Insurer Prudential Vietnam.

Each award-winning teacher is considered a leader in the field of education and will encourage following generations.

The award started in 1998 and has been given to 480 teachers of K-12, vocational schools and colleges who show an ability to overcome challenges, and are an excellent role-model for students and colleagues.

“Vo Truong Toan Award is meaningful for Vietnamese education and all teachers,” said award winner Tran Tien Thinh.

The award encourages teachers to be proud of their career, said teacher Nguyen Thi Hong Le from Hoang Van Thu Primary School.  She believes the encouragement is healthy for teachers to progress in their work, which helps children learn better.

A teacher’s most valuable award is seeing progress in students, added teacher Nguyen Thi Hong Le .

The award is named after Vo Truong Toan, a revered educator nicknamed “master of masters” by his students.

During his career, he trained many good student generations to contribute to develop the country.  The award exists to honor educators who raise expectations and emphasize traditional culture in the classroom.

The Vo Truong Toan Awards 2013 were given to 30 outstanding teachers by the Department of Education and Training. Teachers were selected from 98 vocational schools, K-12 schools, and colleges in HCMC.

The annual award is organized by the City Department of Education and Training, Saigon Giai Phong Newspaper and Life Insurer Prudential Vietnam.  It has been running for 16 years.
