Former U.S. President Barack Obama makes a return visit to Vietnam

Former President and First Lady, Barack and Michelle Obama returned to Vietnam to promote 'Girls Opportunity Alliance' in Asia, a program of the Obama Foundation that seeks to empower adolescent girls around the world through education.
The HCMC leader affirmed that the Former President Barack Obama’s visit showed a deep interest in Vietnam-US relations and Vietnam’s development particularly.
Since the normalization of trade and investment relations between the United States and Vietnam, the two sides have been striving to broaden and deepen their relationship through mutual visits by leaders of both countries, especially Party general secretary Nguyen Phu Trong’s first visit to the US in 2015 and Barack Obama’s three-day visit to Vietnam in 2016 when he served as president of the United States.
Mr. Nhan highly appreciated individual contribution of the former US President to the development of bilateral relations and the establishment of the Fulbright University Vietnam in Ho Chi Minh City.
The city Party Leader hoped former President Barack Obama will continue to bolster bilateral relations in coming time, especially the upcoming 25th Anniversary of the normalization of diplomatic relations between Vietnam and the United States in 2020.
For his part, the 44th president of the United States expressed his joy at the strengthened relations between the two countries and the continuity of discussion on the framework of Vietnam-US trade exchange, cooperation and development.
He honored new policies, development, innovation and creativity of HCMC in recent years that will contribute to the sustainable development goals of the southern hub.
The former President affirmed that he will make greater effort to boost Vietnam-U.S. ties and US-HCMC particularly, notably the field of Innovative Startups.
