25,000 dengue fever cases reported across country

The Department of Preventive Medicine under the Ministry of Health September 8 said that in the first 8 months, the country has recorded nearly 25,000 infection cases of dengue fever including 12 deaths in 48 cities and provinces.

At present, in many cities and provinces in the southern provinces, the infection cases increased dramatically because it is on peak season and rainy season is conducive to the development of mosquitoes – which carry the virus that causes dengue.

Meantime, in some northern provinces especially in Hanoi, the dengue fever cases also increased quickly with over 1,300, three times higher than that compared to last year.

Worried, the disease is being a financial burden for the community and residents. When infected with the disease, people have to take sick days off class or work for treatment and their relatives also do either while hospital fee is not a small sum for them.

According to the Ministry of Health in some hospitals in the southern Vietnam, an ill person and their relatives must take 7 to 14 days off for treatment. It depends on how serious the disease is and patients’ age, hospital charge will fluctuate from US$40.7-US$126.2.
