A woman in Soc Trang province delivers conjoined twins

 

 A woman in the Mekong delta province of Soc Trang delivered a conjoined twins in Oct 12th, according to medical sources.

 

Dr. Nguyen Hoang Cat, Director of Soc Trang hospital said that the woman was brought to a local hospital in the morning of October 12. An examination carried out by doctors proved that the baby has two heads. They decided to do cesarean on the afternoon of the same day.

 

N.T.T who was born in 1976, from An Ninh village, My Tu district told nurses that this was her second child.

 

The twins were transferred to the Children’s Hospital 1 in HCM City one day after birth. Doctor Dao Trung Hieu, the hospital’s deputy director, said that this is a very rare incomplete twin.

 

Doctors said that the conjoined twins have two heads, two hearts, two spinal columns, two legs and one female sex organ. The conjoined twins have two hands, with six fingers each, in the front, and one hand with three fingers behind.

 

The twins was very weak at birth so they had to use respiratory machine. Then, the twins recovered at night and are in good health now.

 

The mother said she made ultrasound tests during the pregnant period but the tests did not show that the baby had two heads. Doctors only defined the heart beats from two hearts, so the mother was at ease, thinking that she would have a twins.

 

Dr. Hieu said that the hospital would perform a complete exam of the baby’s internal organs before holding a consultation to make final decision. He said this is a difficult case.
