Antibiotic resistance threats to human health
Hospital Director Dr. Nguyen Van Kinh said that biotics had been made in early 1940s – a turning point of human medicine history. The pill has helped saving millions of lives from infectious diseases.
However, later, wrong use of the pill or overuse of it in healthcare and agriculture becomes one of causes of increase in antibiotic resistance which is threatening treatment of contagious diseases and weakening healthcare progress, Dr. Kinh added.
The director called for responsibility in using the pill; patients should not take the pill without doctors’ prescription and drug store assistants should refuse to sell antibiotic without prescription and breeders should not feed animal with antibiotic rampantly.
According to the World Health Organization, antibiotic resistance is one of the biggest threats to global health, food security and development.
Annually, at least 700,000 people die of antibiotic resistance in the world; accordingly, without close control over the matter, more people will die of it by 2050.
