Deadly diseases are on the increase nationwide, the Ministry of Health has said in a report on its activities last month to the government.

The biggest cause of worry is dengue fever, which has broken out in 40 districts, killing 15 out of the nearly 15,000 people infected by the disease.

So far this year it has caused 79 deaths while 78,512 people have been infected, 1 percent higher than in the same period last year.

Although nobody of cholera, 791 people have tested positive this year for the dangerous disease.

The incidence of meningitis rose by 3.5 per cent and malaria by 18 per cent.

Dr. Nguyen Huy Nga, head of the central Department of Preventive Medicine, said the Ministry of Health would put pandemic prevention on the top of its agenda for next month.

The ministry plans to obtain samples from cholera victims as part of its efforts to stamp out the disease and work with the Ministry of Transport to clean up trains nationwide.
