The Department of Preventive Medicine under the Ministry of Health yesterday said that within last week the country has had more 19 cases of encephalitis bringing the total number to 705 since the beginning of the year.
Most of cases of encephalitis are living in the North of Vietnam. Medical experts said that the number had increased nearly 15 percent (equivalent to 20 cases) compared to the same period last year. Of 705 infected cases of encephalitis, 26 succumbed to the disease including 18 from Son La, four from Hanoi and Bac Giang each.
Concerning to Japanese encephalitis, the country has recorded 203 cases in 39 provinces and cities, an increase of 25 percent compared to last year’s figure, and three patients died of the disease. These provinces and cities have highest cases of Japanese encephalitis are Son La Province with 36 cases, Hanoi with 22 and An Giang Province in the Mekong delta with 10.
