Nguyen Van Sau, head of  the Center for International Health Quarantine, said that accordance with the Ministry’s guideline, the center had implemented the Ebola virus disease in the city’s border gates, especially in Tan Son Nhat Airport.

The center closely coordinates with related agencies to early detect infected cases. International passengers are being screened by an infrared body-temperature system at the airport and asked to fill health declaration form.

So far, 13 people from Ebola-infected regions have declared their state of health at Tan Son Nhat airport. They will be under close scrutiny within 21 days in community, said Mr. Sau.

Health Minister Nguyen Thi Kim Tien said that HCMC receives a large number of international visitors travelling between Africa and Vietnam more than other provinces.

She asked the Pasteur Institute to stage a simulation in case that quarantine staff detected a passenger with fever. A quarantine room was set up in the airport with enough medical equipment.

The health minister highly lauded the preparedness of the city health sector. In addition, she asked the cooperation between the Center for International Health Quarantine, Pasteur Institute and Tropical Disease Hospital in moving infected people to restrict the virus spread.

Ms. Tien also asked health workers to follow the Ministry’s guideline.
