Major non-communicable diseases including cardiovascular disease, cancer, diabetes, asthma and COPD are rapidly increasing. 73 percent of all deaths relate to non-communicable diseases and 66 percent of the total burden of disease are non-communicable diseases in the Southeast Asian.
One of the solutions mentioned in the national strategy for prevention and control of NCDs, period 2015-25 is to enhance detection, treatment and management at medical facilities in district and communities to make sure continuous management, monitoring and care services for people with cancers, cardiovascular diseases, diabetes, COPD, asthma and other NCDs.
With the aim to improve the quality of outpatient management of asthma and COPD in Vietnam, the program has been carried out since 2017 to help raise the quality of asthma and COPD outpatient management.
By October, the program has gained good results in the three key pillars including cooperation and cognition, infrastructure and access ability and knowledge and skills.
First launched in Asia, the Healthy Lung Program was created to raise the profile of disease with policymakers and build health-system capacity to better serve patients. This includes capacity building of healthcare professionals, medical infrastructure and policy advocacy.
