Foreign experts pledge to help Vietnam in blood transfusion, hematology

At two-day scientific conference organized in Ho Chi Minh City, foreign medical experts pledged to help Vietnam’s development in the field of blood transfusion and hematology.
Director of the City Blood Transfusion and Hematology Hospital Phu Chi Dung said at the conference that Vietnam has five large blood banks and other small blood banks which collect nearly 1.6 million blood units yearly for emergency treatment.
In the field of hematology, Vietnamese surgeons have performed blood stem cell transplants with nearly 1,000 surgeries so far.
Local and international conference participants delivered reports of blood stem cell transplant and progresses in treating benign and malignant hematology.
Additionally, reports also provided brief updates on the progress of the field.
