The Hematology and Blood Transfusion Hospital in Ho Chi Minh City achieved the 2013 International ISO 9001:2008 Certification for stem-cell research regarding hematological diseases.
Obtaining the certification requires the ability of the hospital to demonstrate its ability to provide product meeting customer satisfaction and regulations, effective application of system and ensures continual improvement, according to the Ministry of Health.
It is now considered the leading hospital in the field. In 2013, the hospital successfully performed three ground-breaking operations in stem cell transplantation.
Their success lies in finding substantial stem cell donors. Vietnam currently does not have an established stem-cell bank to use for treatment.
The hospital is currently performing tests to verify matches of donor cells to patients. Only one other hospital in the country performs these tests.
