Dr. Nguyen Duc Cong, director of Thong Nhat Hospital, officially confirmed five doctors and nine nurses had contracted the swine flu from a patient.
On July 31, an infected patient was admitted to the hospital, with medics in close contact with the patient becoming infected. One doctor isolated himself at his house and later recovered from the flu.
Medical staff at People’s Hospital 115 fear the flu, as the hospital receives around 1,200-1,400 patients a day, as such the possibility of contracting the flu is very high.
The hospital has ordered staff to wear facemasks and is using loudspeakers to broadcast methods to prevent swine flu. The hospital has also organized a ward for treatment of the virus.
It was recently reported that medics in hospitals in district 7 and 8 are anxious about contracting the disease from colleagues.
In response, the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Health convened a meeting with its district subdivisions.
It ordered districts medical establishments to raise public awareness of swine flu, diarrhea and hand-foot-and mouth.
The department also said offices should disinfect their working environments as often as possible.
