Ministry to launch ‘Safe Meal’ action month prior to Tet

The Ministry of Health plans to launch a ‘Safe Meal’ action month to propagate awareness of safe and hygienically prepared food across the country and to call for food manufacturers to become more responsible towards customers, particularly in view of the coming Tet Lunar New Year.

Nguyen Thanh Long, Deputy Health Minister said the action month is themed ‘Safe Meal’ and will address all people’s concerns such as unhygienic kitchens in industrial parks, unsafe smuggled chickens, and fruits and food containing toxic additives and chemicals.

In the last few years more than 500,000 food processing companies and businesses have opened across the country. Therefore an awareness campaign to make businesses more responsible towards their customers is essential to prevent infectious diseases through food items.

On this occasion, the ministry will confer awards to winners of a poster contest titled ‘Safe and Hygienic Food.’ During the three month long contest, the organizers received 133 entries of which 30 poster entries received awards. There is one first prize, three second prizes, six third prizes and 20 consolation prizes.

Nguyen Tuan Khoi from VTC Online in Hanoi was the first prize winner. He received VND10 million in cash for his poster ‘Fruits have toxic preservatives - health time-bomb.’
