Quang Nam culls 5,000 chickens due to outbreaks of avian flu

More than 5,000 chickens of two farms in Tien Tho commune in Tien Phuoc district in the central province of Quang Nam were culled due to the H5N6 strain of bird flu, Deputy Chairman of Tien Phuoc People’s Committee Le Tri Hieu said yesterday.

By the end of February, residents in Tien Tho commune discovered their chicken to get sick and then dead.
Right after being informed of the dead chicken, the local administration conducted laboratory tests. The test result confirmed that the chickens in Tien Tho commune were positive for A/H5N6 virus.
Mr. Hieu said that the local authorities had promptly quarantined the commune and banned chicken transport in and out of the commune.
What is more, residents in neighborhood were encouraged to vaccinate as the local authorities have allocated 10,000 doses of vaccine for immunization as soon as possible, Mr. Hieu said.
