Successful Surgery on 101-Year- Old Woman

Mrs. Nguyen Thi Ba, 101, in Nghe An province, has been successfully treated at Saint Paul hospital in Ha Noi recently.

Prior to this, she suffered a case of collum femouris and had to lie still at her home in Nghe An for a month and a half. Doctors in Nghe An province warned her family not to take her to hospital because it is no use treating her due to her old age.

However, she was operated with MIS technique (Mini-Incision Total hip surgery and computer assisted surgery) at Saint Paul hospital in Ha Noi. Three weeks later, she practiced walking and after a month, her four limbs began working again. Five months after the operation, she came back to usual daily activities. The Saint Paul hospital in Ha Noi has been the first health unit in the North applying this MIS technique since early 2005 to manipulating broken bones of elderly patients in place.
