Therapist honored for contribution to VN’s public health

Yumiko Hayashi, operations manager of “Ho tro nguoi khuyet tat” (Give a hand to disabled people) project in Vietnam received the “Vi suc khoe nhan dan“(For the health of people) Medal from the Ministry of Health August 5.

The three-year Japanese project, sponsored by the Japan International Cooperation Agency, was launched at HCM City’s Cho Ray Hospital in 2006.

With funds of US$378,000, the program aims to rehabilitate Vietnamese stroke patients using new medical techniques.

Ms. Hayashi also arranged training courses for therapists from the hospital.

Among 115 patients receiving new treatment from the project, eight have already recovered strength and returned to work or study.

Of those remaining, their health has improved somewhat and have an optimistic outlook.

Ms. Hayashi received a lot of love and esteem from her patients, not only for her careful and dedicated attitude, but also thanks to her enthusiasm.

She said the benefit of the patients must always come first.
