A US$200,000 grant will go towards leprosy research at the Dermatology Hospital in Ho Chi Minh City thanks to the fund from the Order of Malta Grants for Leprosy Research (MAGRALEPRE- France) in cooperation with MacGill University-Canada and Inserm University-France.When the leprosy patients become ill, they experience an inversion reaction when their immune system adapts to the leprosy bacterium.
This reaction can affect patients’ outer edge nerve and disable them. 30% of pleprosy patients are affected by the reaction.
The research aims to clarify the hereditary structure of this reaction or in order to establish better treatment and preventative measures.
The research was approved by the Ho Chi Minh City People’s Committee.
