Vietnam multiplies satellite hospitals

Many high techniques in tumor, heart disease, surgery, obstetrics and pediatrics which had been transferred to satellite medical facilities have generated good results accordingly patients can enjoy high quality services in small hospitals in districts.

This also contributes to reduce pressure on big hospitals.

The move was reported at a meeting to implement the Prime Minister's guideline on building more satellite hospital in order to reduce pressure on big hospitals in the period 2013-2020.

As per a report of the Ministry of Health's Department of Medical Examination and Treatment said the Ministry has built 14 satellite medical facilities for 2 years in Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City as well as technique transferring. In the North Vietnam, 21 out of 28 general hospitals in districts have been set up satellite hospitals of big cities in Hanoi.

Health Minister Nguyen Thi Kim Tien said that since the satellite hospital project has brought initial good results, the Prime Minister asked the Ministry to continue multiplying the model to all provinces and it is expected that by 2016 all provinces and cities must have satellite hospital.

Accordingly, the Ministry will continue upgrading satellite hospital and provide training to medical workers of hospitals in districts.

The Ministry has also proposed local governments in cities and provinces to allocate fund for upgrading satellite hospitals.
