Vietnam recalls Polish-made cough drug

The Administration of Drug yesterday announced a recall of Polish-made cough medicine Fenspirol because it was found containing Fenspiride substance which may do harm to people’s health.

The medicine is manufactured by Polfamex S.A and imported by Pharbaco Central Pharmaceutical Company No.1.
To protect the public from potentially harmful drug, the administration ordered the importer in coordination with its distributors to remove the drug from shelves of retail and wholesale drug stores countrywide.
Health departments in cities and provinces were required to inform the removal of Fenspirol to pharmaceutical businesses as well as publicize the recall on its website, and impose fines on retailers and wholesalers that fail to follow the request.
Moreover, medical clinics must not use drugs containing Fenspiride substance for treatment and prescription.
Fenspiride prevents respiratory infection and bronchial spasm. It is a common ingredient in cough syrup and medicine.
