Vietnam reports fetus in spleen cases for first time

For the very first time, Vietnam reports a case that the embryo or fetus is growing and developing in spleen not in the womb in the abdomen.

Head of the maternity ward of Thanh Nhan Hospital in Hanoi Dr. Nguyen Thi Ngoc Bich yesterday said that surgeons have performed endoscopy to remove spleen with seven week old fetus inside on a 37 year old woman in Hanoi.
Before, the pregnant woman came to the infirmary for medical check-up because she had once had fetus growing outside the womb. Moreover, doctors performed C-section on her twice.
Through checking, doctors detected no fetus in the womb yet test showed she was pregnant. Accordingly, medical workers gave her an ultrasound scan discovering a fetus in her spleen.
Dr. Ngoc said that fetus in spleen is a rare phenomenon though it is popular that fetus stay outside the womb. The case is the first in Vietnam.
At present, only nine cases of fetus in spleen have been reported in the world.
It may cost her life without early detection.
After the operation, the woman recovered and she will be discharged a few next days.
