Carrying out the commercial vaccine pilot project with virus LMLM in Vietnam for the period 2017-2020, the Ministry has allowed Navetco National Veterinary Company, RTD Rural Technology Development Company and Duc Hanh Marphavet Veterinary Company to take part in manufacturing vaccine LMLM; accordingly, Vietnam can self-produce vaccine for domestic use.
Mr. Nguyen Hong Minh, Director of Avac Vietnam Company, a part of RTD Rural Technology Development Company, once Vietnam can self-produce commercial vaccine supply, price of local-made vaccine will be VND15,000-VND16,000 ($0.6 - $0.68) a dose lower than imported kinds.
Presently, local vaccine demand is 30 - 40 million doses annually. Director of Animal Health Department section 6, Mr. Bach Duc Luu said that import of foot - mouth vaccine resulted in inactive supply and the difference between imported vaccine and virus strain in Vietnam.
Successful production of vaccine for domestic usage is expected to control over the disease amongst cattle in the next time.
According to the World Health Organization, foot-mouth disease is the most dangerous contagious disease amongst cattles. The disease has caused big loss for breeder and state budget in the country.
Annually, Vietnam loses $20 million for preventing the foot - mouth disease in Vietnam. Moreover, Vietnam spent over $110 million to buy 200 million doses of vaccine in eight years.
