Zika epidemic announced in Dong Nai

After an urgent meeting, the steering board of disease prevention in the southern province of Dong Nai yesterday announced Zika epidemic in Vinh Thanh Commune in Nhon Trach District.

Since end of December, 2016 to January, 2017, the province’s health sector detected four cases of Zika infections in Vinh Thanh Commune; accordingly the local administration decided to announce epidemic to warn people of the disease and adopt measures to curb its spreading.

Before, on December 13, a 24 year old inhabitant in Vinh Thanh Commune who had slight fever and rash in body arrived at the hospital in Ho Chi Minh City’s District 2. Her samples were taken and sent to Pasteur Institute which confirmed the patient was positive for the virus on December 26.

Soon, the provincial Department of Preventive Medicine on the day provided medical check-up to locals in the commune detecting additional three infection cases of Zika viruses.

According to the  Department of Preventive Medicine, as of January 9, the province has six cases of infection, four of them are locals in Vinh Thanh Commune.
