The Ho Chi Minh City Department of Transport has banned boats from moving under the Rach Chiec Bridge in Hanoi Highway until the end of 2012.

According to the department, the ban is to ensure safety for waterway vehicles moving in that area while they build the main section of the new Rach Chiec Bridge.
The department has placed two signposts on both sides of the construction site on the river.
After completion, the new Rach Chiec Bridge, estimated to cost VND10billion (US$476,000), will measure 735 meters in length and 48 meters in width with 10 lanes.
The bridge will be in three sections. Two sections on either side of the old bridge are ready and execution units are now removing the old bridge to build the main section.
