Authorities in Ho Chi Minh City have banned vehicular traffic from parking along one hundred and eleven streets in Districts 1 and 3, under a proposal by the local Transport Department to streamline traffic flow and improve safety on roads.
The streets named in District 1 are Le Lai, Le Duan, Nguyen Hue, Ham Nghi, Suong Nguyet Anh, Cong Xa Paris and Alexandre De Rhodes. Parking will not be allowed on these streets no matter what time of day.
Parking will be allowed only during certain hours or on odd or even days on 67 other streets, including Ba Le Chan, Bui Thi Xuan, Cong Quynh, Ho Tung Mau, Huynh Thuc Khang, Le Thanh Ton and Ly Tu Trong in District 1; and Ky Dong, Le Quy Don, Nam Ky Khoi Nghia, Nguyen Thi Minh Khai and Vo Van Tan in District 3.
Along with the ban, the HCMC People’s Committee has issued a list of 117 streets where sections of the pavement can be used as temporary parking.
The authorities also announced a list of 13 streets where business can be conducted along the roadside, and a list of 42 streets where parts of the road can be used for parking.
These new regulations are aimed at meeting the increasing demand for parking and to improving traffic order and safety, the department said.
Over the past several years, many underground parking lot projects have been proposed, but none have been completed as yet.
