City coastal district needs to invest in wellness tourism: Deputy Chairman

Deputy Chairman of Ho Chi Minh City People’s Committee Tran Vinh Tuyen said that being an only district of the city with sea and various mangrove swamp ecosystem, historical sites, traditional festival, handicraft villages and good dishes, Can Gio should invest in wellness tourism.

The deputy chairman and some representatives from departments and agencies February 18 toured to Can Gio District where they worked with the district administrations over tourism development.

With its own above-mentioned advantages for tourism, Mr. Tuyen asked the district to have wharves for river tourism, launch more free vehicles to carry people to the district, to expand the aquatic market Dong Hoa. The district needs to call for social contribution for tourism to push up the sector.

Chairman of Can Gio People’s Committee Le Minh Dung said that in five recent years, the number of visitors to Can Gio surge by 10 percent a year with annual tourism revenue increase by 18.4 percent. In 2016, over one million visitors arrived in the district producing earnings of VND402.6 billion (US$ 17,722,452). Can Gio plans to attract 1.25 million visitors in 2017 achieving over VND500 billion.

Currently, the district is exploit river tourism to bring visitors to Dan Xay Tourism Park, oyster breeding farms in river, Sac historical jungle, Dong Hoa aquatic processing factory and Thieng Lieng salt field, swallow breeding houses, homestay tourism and religious tourism. Visitors enjoyed specialities and hear the Southern amateur music in boats yet the district is still short of other entertainment, Mr. Dung said.
