City opens vocational center for disabled

HCM City’s Party Secretary, Le Thanh Hai, and the deputy chairwoman of the city’s People’s Committee, Nguyen Thi Hong, opened a vocational training center for disabled people and orphans in Xuan Thoi Thuong Commune, Hoc Mon District Saturday.

Built on two hectares, the VND20 billion center is one of the largest sites nationwide offering vocational training to orphans and those with disabilities, providing skills such as sewing, embroidery, IT, making mosaics, fashion design, accounting and motorbike repairs.

Trainees are exempted from tuition, board and lodging fees. People with disabilities are also given access to funded orthopedic surgeries and rehabilitation programs.

In the coming future, the center will mobilize more funds from benefactors to organize training programs for people with disabilities and orphans from other provinces and cities.

The center has so far received more than VND400 million, with contributions coming from benefactors throughout the country.

Ms. Hong promised that the city will create favorable conditions for the center, such as helping it recruit more qualified orthopedists and experienced staff, as well as being equipped with necessary modern equipment.

She also entrusted the city’s Trade Promotion Center to seek markets for the products produced by the trainees.

At the opening ceremony, Mr. Hai signed some paintings, which will be sold at an auction to raise funds for the center.
