City spreads New Year cheer among poor

HCM City leaders have visited poor people and given them Tet gifts.

Deputy chairwoman of the city People’s Committee, Nguyen Thi Thu Ha, gifted 269 television sets to poor farmers in Binh Chanh District under a program to donate 2,000 TVs to poor members of the Farmers Association.

She also visited and gave away gifts to old people and orphans at the Chanh Phu Hoa Social Welfare Center in neighboring Binh Duong Province.

Deputy chairman of the city People’s Council, Huynh Thanh Lap, called on nine poor ethnic Chinese families in Binh Tan District and gave them each gifts worth VND700,000.

The city plans to help 70 poor Chinese families celebrate the lunar New Year.

Members of the city Women’s Union visited and greeted the soldiers in Can Gio District. They also gave gifts to nearly 200 poor people in Districts 11, Tan Binh, Tan Phu, Phu Nhuan, and Go Vap.

The Thu Duc District Fatherland Front Committee gave presents worth VND300,000 each to 250 poor families in the district.

The Tan Phu District Youth Union gave gifts worth VND150,000 to 500 of its members.

The Ba Huan Company and Thanh Tai JSC gifted VND15 million and a computer to Bung Sang School for the blind.

The People’s Council chairwoman, Pham Phuong Thao, On January 12 called on senior revolutionary fighters Nguyen Van Chinh, Truong My Hoa, Nguyen Tho Chan, and Nguyen Van Chi and the family of Vu Dinh Lieu and Pham Van Xo.

She offered them New Year greetings and listened to their suggestions to develop the city.
