HCMC authorities have revoked its 2007 decision to sack the Health Department chief inspector for covering up the presence of carcinogens in many soy sauce products.
The decision was made under Decision No. 189 signed by city People’s Committee chairman Le Hoang Quan.
This decision nullifies Decision No. 3726, August 16, 2007, to dismiss the chief inspector, Nguyen Duc An, for failing to publicly disclose the presence of 3-MCPD, a cancer-causing substance, at dangerous levels, in many soy sauces sold in the market despite knowing about it in August 2005.
According to the new decision, the director of HCMC Health Department is tasked with setting up a disciplinary council to consider action against Mr. An. This is based on the government’s Point 2, Article 7, Decree No. 35 dated March 17, 2005 for disciplinary action against cadres and civil servants.
