District 9 begins waste classification

People’s Committee in district 9 in Ho Chi Minh City and relevant agencies began to implement waste classification program in each households in the district.

According to the People’s Committee, the district authorities have organized activities to increase information in the ward people’s committees with drama performance to guide people how to classify trash. Concerted efforts are made to get people to adopt eco-friendly habits in the community.
Additionally, 100 waste bins with two trays are placed in residential blocks.
The public service company in district 9 is assigned to have a landfill to receive garbage as it is hard-to-dissolve garbage in Long Hoa landfill abd organic waste is dumped in Phuoc Long A and Long Truong landfills.
Deputy chairwomen of district 9 People’s Committee Le Thi Kim Chi said collection and classification in households are mostly performed by private companies and cooperatives while the public service company is responsible for collecting a small amount of trash.
However, private company employees utilize simple collecting equipment and vehicles such as wheelbarrow, small trucks; accordingly, to improve environment service quality in the district, the people’s committee asked the municipal People’s Committee for assistance such as buying health insurance for employees and providing loans for private collecting companies and cooperatives to buy new equipment, said Ms. Chi.
Along with this, the district authorities will consider to invest in two waste treatment plants in Long Truong ward and Ethnological History and Culture Park which utilize advanced technologies to guarantee environmental sanitation.
Apart from that, this year, the district will focus on classifying rubbish in residential blocks in Phuoc Binh ward and Phuoc Long A , B and Phu Huu wards. It strives to achieve the waste classification rate of 50 percent.
