The driver of the truck is Chu Nguyen Vinh (born in 1975, living in district 7, HCMC). After the accident, Vinh was also injured and hospitalized.

About midnight of April 20, a truck licensed BKS 51D-163.33 ran with high speed on Nguyen Huu Canh street from Saigon bridge to the center of District 1, HCMC. At the intersection of Nguyen Huu Canh - Nguyen Binh Khiem street, the truck suddenly crossed over the divider and collided with a number of motorcycles stopping at the red light in the opposite lane of the street.

The car just stopped after crashed down a traffic light post and some trees.

Police said the cause of the accident was that the driver drove his vehicle at high speed and pedaled the wrong pedal.

According to preliminary investigation, when the truck ran close to Nguyen Huu Canh - Nguyen Binh Khiem cross roads, the driver instead of pressing the foot brake, slammed down the accelerator pedal, thus causing the car to “fly over” the divider, hitting several motorcycles which were stopping at the red light.

The police are still investigating whether the driver had used alcohol or not and will inform the case later.

On the same day, Mr. Nguyen Ngoc Tuong - Deputy Head of Ho Chi Minh City Traffic Safety Committee also asked the relevant authorities to organize visits to the victims and their families.

Mr. Nguyen Ngoc Tuong said: " The People's Committee of District 1 will send a working delegation to investigate the cause, handle the case, identify the victims’ names ".
